Harbor Living wasn't created from a business plan. It was shaped by decades inside the healthcare system - and by one simple belief: every person deserves to be known before they are treated.
It Started Long Before Harbor Living
Throughout my career, I worked in crisis intervention, behavioral health, utilization management, discharge planning, and healthcare administration. Every day I helped individuals and families navigate some of life's most difficult moments. Along the way, I witnessed something that never left me: healthcare became remarkably good at treating illness, but sometimes it lost sight of the person behind the patient.
The Lesson That Changed Everything
As my career evolved, I experienced healthcare from every perspective - working directly with patients and families, advocating with insurance companies, coordinating discharge plans, and leading teams responsible for moving people through the healthcare system. I realized the system wasn't broken. Everyone was doing their job. But no one was responsible for protecting the whole person - or the family walking beside them.
Then It Became Personal
Years later, I found myself on the other side of healthcare - not as a professional, but as a daughter. Even with decades of experience, I became consumed with coordinating care, communicating with physicians, organizing medications, navigating hospice, and making sure every detail was handled.
Looking back, I realized I had spent so much time being my father's advocate that I almost forgot to simply be his daughter. That experience changed me forever.
Harbor Living Was Born From One Question
What if families didn't have to carry this alone? What if someone else could carry the burden of navigating healthcare and other elder life issues, so families could focus on loving the person in front of them?
The answer became Harbor Living.
What I Believe
- —I believe every person has a story before they have a diagnosis.
- —I believe healthcare has an important role. Harbor Living has a different one.
- —While healthcare focuses on treating illness, Harbor Living focuses on protecting what illness can unintentionally take away.
- —The final chapter of someone's life should never overshadow the story of the life they lived.
